This kinetic type project promotes Ethan Hawke’s 2021 novel

A Bright Ray of Darkness. The novel is about an actor struggling find purpose in the aftermath of the media broadcasting the issues of his personal life, and about the “use and abuse” mindset

of the industry.

Throughout the process, I worked to capture that helpless

feeling in the animation. I chose to work with the first line of

the novel because it funnily captures the meaning of the entire work, something I find incredibly impressive. The stop-motion animation portrays the feeling of the main character being treasured for his talent then forgotten about after his work

is done, finding himself to be a cog in a machine.
